The Light and Art Museum is an intriguing idea for a museum. The building was the typical four or five story industrial building of the 1800's. The first half hour was a huge disappointment. The displays were rather static considering the build-up of inter-active and the immersive journey you are embarking on. The signage was technical - not geared to someone like me who has a bit of physics education but it got me through only one-third of the meaning of the words on the signage so I was lost.

STAY with it. Climb up the iron stairs of the old factory, Walk around the cat-walk pass more displays and a lot of closed displays, round a corner and climb some wooden steps. A floating canvas cylinder about 40 feet long, like a bullet - narrows at the ends with a fat middle. The man at the top: Open Sesame! OH MY! I’m in Outer Space. Standing on a platform inside a balloon with teenagers sitting beside the railing up to my waist. A computer program projects onto the skin of the balloon all round you light that looks like it represents the creation and continuing movement of the gases and reflecting light of the universe. The whole cycle takes about 15 minutes but it never stops so you can stay as long as you like. It is really cool. Imagine standing in one spot with the light moving all around you.

The wonders of light. The envelop of dark space lit by ….. well, pictures tell a thousand words,

Go.

The cat-walk.  The doors on the left are individual displays.  The faint shadow like blob on the right is the Star of the Show - the outside of the canvas like shape that you walk inside and stand in wonder.
From the cat-walk looking towards the iron staircase and into the main floor.
